JOHN BRYAN WYBREW, OBE, Chairman
John joined Emergent Capital Partners Limited as a Director in 2014.
After 8 years as Executive Director of British Gas and then its successor companies, at the end of 2003 John retired from the Board of National Grid Transco (now National Grid), the major international company specialising in the provision of gas and electricity infrastructure.
Since then, he has had a portfolio of interests, until 2009 including chairmanship of a Government-backed Sector Skills Council set up to anticipate and tackle the skills needs of the gas, electricity, water and waste management industries, for which he was awarded an OBE. From May 2004, John served for 8 years as a Non Executive Director on the Board of the Energy Regulator, Ofgem. He chaired the British Energy Association from 2005 to 2007, and the Foundation for Management Education from 2000 to 2013.
Before joining the Board of British Gas in 1997, John had a wide-ranging 30 year career in the international oil and gas industry with the Shell Group, after graduating from Cambridge University with a first-class honours degree in engineering. In the late 1970s, he managed Shell/Esso's gas production operations in the Southern North Sea. In the early 1980s, he was Technical Director of Shell's major oil and gas exploration and production company in Brunel, going on to head up the Planning and Economics Division of Shell's E&P Co-ordination in The Hague. For 3 years in the mid 1980s, he was seconded to the Prime Minister's Policy Unit as Baroness Thatcher's adviser for energy and transport.
Today, John is active on several boards of new and developing businesses in the fields of energy efficiency and sustainability with and emphasis on forward-looking technical and operational innovation.
MARK MACLEAN, Director
Mark has over 30 years international experience in investment banking, M&A and institutional private placement. Prior to joining Emergent, Mark was Senior Partner and Head of Corporate Finance for Matrix Corporate Capital in London. Previously, Mark was Global Head of Private Placement for the West LB Group, a main Board member and Partner of Seymour Pierce in London, Executive Director and Head of Canadian ECM for Barclays de Zoete Wedd in London, Vice President of Kidder Peabody & Co Limited in San Francisco and Vice President of Institutional Sales with McLeod Young Weir in Canada. Since 1995 Mark has advised on over 70 transactions representing in excess of €5.5 billion of capital invested. Mark has a BSc in Political Science from University of Redlands.
